Candi Staton - “Young Hearts Run Free” (1976)
This was my first taste of disco. I think. In 7th grade I got a free disco compilation with my subscription to Entertainment Weekly Magazine. I wore that CD out on my shitty boombox in my bedroom. This was my “getting ready” song for an entire winter. If anyone ever asked what kind of my music I liked, I’d loudly yell, “DISCO!” That all changed the next year when I got 4 Non Blondes on cassette tape. I denied anything disco or dancey for a long time. How you can deny the “feel good” sound of Candi Staton. You can’t. Enjoy!
